1961 Chevrolet Corvette in need of complete restoration, assembly required
My project started in 1992 and now at 75 years old I have neither the ability or desire to finish. Chassis was completely redone in 92 by Caledonia Corvette; new brakes, wheel cylinders, king pins, brake & gas lines, shocks & springs, rebound straps, new rear cross member & tie rod ends.
After I bought the car I found a 935, 283 motor correct for a late 61 car and had it rebuilt. Block and heads were magnafluxed and the block does have one sleeve. Hardened valve seats, mild hydraulic cam, rebuilt starter, generator, correct Carter carb. Found a rebuilt casting date correct aluminum case T-10 and had the P case pumpkin rebuilt with a 4:11 posi. Bought 8 1/2 pages worth of new parts from Corvette Central; everything from ash tray to wiper arms to bumper brackets (can provide a complete list of 150+ items). Bought all new chrome (except front bumpers sold as nice used), NOS side stainless, side spears and badges, NOS front turn signals, new rear tail lights and lenses, door handles and interior handles. Wonderbar radio was redone with a FM tuner installed. Have a used dash pad, door panels (with all the trim), seats (w/new foam). Trunk mat, although new has a crack & trunk panel has slight water damage. Windshield frame was rechromed with new weatherstrip. Original T3 headlights.
Car needs some fiberglass work in headlight, grill, air dam area & right rocker panel, under gas tank and a small area behind both doors on upper rear quarters. Also needs metal work done on the drivers door hinge reinforcement (kit available from Paragon). Short one door glass I haven’t found, have the frame plus a complete spare drivers door. New Sully’s top frame w/front and rear latches, no fabric. Hard top is a secondary project, no glass and short other pieces. Heater and windshield wiper unit need repair and I don’t know the working condition of the dash gauges or clock. This is a car that needs completion of restoration and assembly (manual included). All parts and car have been stored inside for 29 years, but some packaging did suffer mouse damage (contents appear OK). Some chrome pieces & stainless will need polishing. I had planned on a White car w/Silver coves and a Red interior. Car was originally Fawn with I’m sure a black interior.
